Each year we have a popular Make'n'Take craft room where families create a variety of fun art projects. In past years, we have also had great storytellers, special puppet shows and magicians. These were all in addition to the fun of joining into a square dance in the cafeteria, learning an African dance from a popular elementary school group or just clapping your hands to the lively drum beats of an elementary students' marimba band. We have seen children mesmerized watching a vendor demonstrating his handmade dancing wooden puppet or experiencing the lively Haran Irish Dancers.

Importantly, the Festival is a wonderful event for children to experience many different cultures presented in dance, song and music. Plus, we welcome many nonprofit groups and vendors, who share their international knowledge and handicrafts.

This year, we have a great line up of performers and free craft projects for the whole family at the Festival. Most of these can be found in Building 5, East of the Lair, on the Rocket Bakery Stage (formerly the Family Stage) and the Craft Room.

The Craft Room is open:
     Saturday       12:00 - 5:00 pm (clean-up will begin at 4:45 pm)
     Sunday          12:00 - 4:00 pm (clean-up will begin at 3:45 pm)

This year our Craft Room will feature these activities:
  • Masks
  • Totem poles
  • Worry dolls
  • Gratitude journals
  • Corn husk dolls
  • Chinese fans & lanterns
  • Paper pumpkins
We offer a big thank you to Jolie Monasterio for coordinating the crafts again this year!
Here are some additional special features that families with children may enjoy. The times for these features can be found on our Schedule page:

Family Stage
  • Magician Dick Frost
  • Singer Jenny Edgren
  • Fairy tales by Lucy D. Ford

Conference Room
  • Storytelling League

Cafeteria
  • Family dance
  • Participatory dances

Plus, this year we have many young performer groups that are perfect for a young family. They are:
  • Coeur D'Alene Youth Marimba
  • Grant Elementary Drummers and Dancers
  • Haran Irish Dancers
  • Highland and Scottish Country Dancers
  • Neema African Youth Choir
  • Otis Orchards Malleteers
  • Silver Spurs
  • Spokane Irish Dancers
And of course, all children need a tasty treat. We have a wonderful selection of goodies at our Festival food area or the college cafeteria offers a tasty variety of kid friendly items. We all enjoy watching a performance in the cafeteria, while resting our feet and refueling.
