About the Festival |
The Spokane Folklore Society's Fall Folk Festival is free and features eight stages of traditional and ethnic dance, music, workshops, unique entertainment, and jamming. Traditional crafts are also sold at the festival.
On Saturday, a live KPBX Radio show featuring select Festival performers will be broadcast. A traditional New England Contra dance will close the festival on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
We have designed the festival to support our regional folk musicians. Many local folk artists are hidden gems well worth discovering. The festival features about 100 performing groups representing Celtic, bluegrass, blues, African, Asian, Middle Eastern traditions, and more.
About 5,000 people attend the festival each year.
Several hundred volunteers are needed to work the festival days. We support the festival through donations from sponsors and individuals and by selling buttons at the festival. The Festival committee needs to raise about $30,000 each year to produce the festival and pay for rent, sound equipment, craft supplies, publicity, printing, security, and required building staff. All performers and festival organizers donate their time.
Plan to spend the weekend or drop by when you can. There is always something terrific going on during the festival. Additionally, you can tune into KPBX 91.1 FM to hear a live broadcast featuring select performers who will perform in person at the festival.
While you enjoy the entertainment and vendors, the festival bake sale offers baked goods and coffee.
