Fall Folk Festival Design Contest

PictureWill your design appear on
this year's T-shirts & posters?
Spokane Fall Folk Festival is Calling for Artwork

The Festival is seeking graphic designs for use in their promotional material and on items for sale, such as programs, posters, T-shirts, buttons and other advertising for the upcoming 2021 Fall Folk Festival to be held on November 13 and 14 at Spokane Community College.

The design should reflect the spirit of the Festival, "26 Years of Celebrating Spokane's Cultural Diversity". Elements of Spokane’s diversity, history and landmarks may be included in the design, but are not required. Artwork will be judged on design quality, color, originality and ease of use on multiple graphic forms.

The purpose of the contest is to select a single graphic design for use online, in print, on T-shirts and on buttons. Flexibility is important; the design must have the ability to resize easily and look good in black and white as well as in color. The design must be suitable for high quality printing.

Entrants must take care to ensure that their entries are not similar to existing copyrighted images.

The Fall Folk Festival is sponsoring the contest and it is open to all. The winner will receive $250 for their contribution. The selected design will become the property of the Spokane Folklore Society and elements of the design may be used independently for the different applications indicated above.

The general parameters for your submission and design are as follows:
  • Anyone may enter the graphic design contest.
  • Individuals may only submit one design for consideration.
  • Artwork may be submitted using either a vector (e.g. .eps, .ai or .cdr) or a raster (e.g. .jpeg, .png or .gif) graphics file format. Regardless of whichever format you use for your submission, please also provide the design in a .jpeg format for viewing by the design selection committee.
  • Save the image at a resolution that will retain clarity when the image is enlarged during judging.
  • It is recommended that the designer submit examples of how their design or elements of the design may appear on a poster, T-shirt and button.
  • The following words must be included in the fundamental design: "Spokane", "Fall Folk Festival", and "2021".

Parameters that are specific to the poster are as follows:
  • The size of the poster is 11” wide x 17” tall.
  • The following additional words must be included in the poster design: "Spokane Folklore Society Presents", "Spokane Fall Folk Festival", "26 Years of Celebrating Our Cultural Diversity", "Saturday, November 13th, 11:00 am to 10:00 pm and Sunday, November 14th, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm", "Spokane Community College, Lair Student Center, 1810 N Greene Street", "FREE ADMISSION / FREE PARKING", "LIVE KPBX (91.1 FM) Radio Broadcast - 11:00 am to 1:00 pm".
  • Sponsors' information will be provided. The names and logos of the sponsors must appear in a footer at the bottom of the poster.

Parameters that are specific to the T-shirt are as follows:
  • The T-shirt design will appear centered on the front of a T-shirt.
  • A maximum of four (4) colors may be used.
  • Remember, this is our 26th Anniversary of the Festival.
  • Your suggestions for T-shirt colors are welcome.

Parameters that are specific to the button design are as follows:
  • Small portions of the design or individual design elements may be used as an image on the buttons to be sold as a fundraiser at the Festival. Additionally, the same or similar design elements may be used for the performer buttons given away as souvenirs to the performing artists and vendors.

Pictures and descriptions of past Festivals and Festival artwork can be found elsewhere on our website.
  • Previous T-shirts can be viewed on our Festival T-Shirt Archive page.
  • Previous posters may be viewed on our Poster Archive page.
