Fall Folk Festival Design Contest

this year's T-shirts & posters?
Spokane Fall Folk Festival is Calling for Artwork

The Spokane Folklore Society is looking for a graphic image to use on the programs, posters, t-shirts and buttons for their annual Fall Folk Festival held in November 2018. We expect that one image or portion of the image, with possible variation, will be used on all four items with differences in the text overlay.

We are sponsoring a contest, open to all, for this design. Winner will receive $150 and be acknowledged on the posters and in the program for their contribution. The selected image will become the property of the Spokane Folklore Society and portions may be used independently for the different applications.

The Spokane Folklore Society is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to promoting the folk-art traditions in the Spokane area. The Fall Folk Festival is a two-day, free, community event that showcases the diversity of local talent, including musicians, dancers and craftspeople.

The image should reflect that mission.

Parameters for the design are as follows:

  • The size of the poster is 11” wide x 17” tall.
  • The size of the program cover is 10” wide x 12” tall.
  • The T-shirt design will cover the front or back of a T-shirt.
  • T-shirts will be bright or dark colors, not pastel, gray or white. We are looking for a design that will work well with these colors.
  • The following words must be included in the design: Spokane, Fall Folk Festival, and 2018.
  • In addition, small portions of the design may be used as an image on buttons to be sold as a fundraiser at the Festival. The artist will not be responsible for this, nor for the text overlay, although his/her input is welcome.

Images should be submitted as digital files. Once an image is selected, it is expected that the SFS will take possession of the original artwork and assume exclusive rights to the artwork and derivatives.

Individual artists may submit more than one image for consideration.

Pictures and descriptions of past Festivals and Festival artwork can be found elsewhere on our website.

Previous T-shirts can be viewed on our Festival T-Shirt Archive page.

Previous posters may be viewed on our Poster Archive page.

We prefer to use the same or similar images on all of the Fall Folk Festival products. In order to do this, the image may be re-sized, portions may be omitted, or only small portions may be used.

Submissions must be received by Friday, June 1, 2018.
Submissions should be sent to fallfolkfestival@moxxee.com.
Submissions may be in PNG, JPEG, PDF or TIFF format with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI or above.
